Museum of Traditional Architecture (school project)

Published on ArchGrad

Craiova needs a Traditional Architecture Museum. The chosen place is close to the Botanical Garden, adjacent to the historical centre. The concept consists of a very bold gesture – placing a brutal wall towards the main avenue, which was also brutally built under the socialist regime, passing through the middle of the island and leaving this odd triangle isolated. On the inside, the wall is used as a panel for the exhibition.

The two existing historical houses (one of them a commercial row house typical for the historical centers, the other, a baroque villa) are preserved, restored and converted to fit into the museum circuit. The new (white) additions complete the tissue, featuring a modern interpretation of Oltenia’s traditional architecture.
